Solar Seam
Solar Systems of NC’s Solar Seam™ is the
Standing Seam Metal Roof that harvests energy
from the sun.
In manufacturing the Solar Seam™, thin-film
solar laminate is fused to the surface of the
roofing panel substrate. The panel/laminate bond
that is created has been tested and proven to
withstand winds of 160 mph.
And when it comes to generating electricity,
compared to any other technology, Solar Seam’s™
solar laminates, manufactured by United Solar
Ovonics, achieve higher relative efficiency
under high temperatures and low light.
The Solar Seam™ roof also comes with a 20 year
warranty.

Enertia Building Systems
Mountain Construction built a home designed and
manufactured by Enertia® Building Systems in
Watauga County, NC. Learn more about our
services as Green Builders Boone.
Enertia® Building Systems use a solid wood
system to create an interior “geothermal loop,”
of air flow and access channel running around
the building, just inside the walls. This
creates a miniature biosphere where solar heated
air circulates, pumping and boosting geothermal
energy from beneath the house, storing it in the
massive wood walls. This loop helps the home
store heat on the winter days and disburse it at
night, making the house itself a heat pump using
the natural energy of rising solar-heated air to
extract and enhance the pool of geothermal
energy. It also creates a ventilation path to
cool the home in warm weather. Heating and
cooling costs for these homes are virtually
eliminated.
There are many other advantages to this system
that are good for the earth.
Wood requires very little energy to process,
much less than steel, plastics or brick. This
lowers pollution in the manufacture of the
house, as well as in its operation.
The durability of a wood home is unmatched by
conventional framed home materials.

Tulikivi Soapstone Fireplaces
Tulikivi produces the most extensive collection
of heat-retaining fireplaces on the market,
including new fireplaces with clean, geometric
lines from Finland’s top designers. The
collection is complemented by custom-made
fireplaces.
Soapstone is a dense, heat-resistant and solid
material. Soapstone also has better heat
retaining and thermal conductivity properties
than other stones.
Soft, radiant heat is emitted for a long time,
heating the room with warm air that is easy to
breathe.
Thanks to the contra-flow principle and the
firebox solutions developed by Tulikivi, the
energy contained in the wood is released
efficiently throughout every heating. Therefore,
a Tulikivi fireplace also burns clean and its
emissions comply with the world’s strictest
norms.

Tankless Water Heaters
Tankless Water Heater, also called Instantaneous
or Demand Water Heaters, provide hot water only
as it is needed. Traditional storage water
heaters produce standby energy losses that cost
you money. We do not leave our homes heated
while vacationing. We only heat our homes when
there is a demand for heat. In the same way, a
Tankless Water Heater is used only when there is
a demand for hot water.
Tankless Water Heaters heat water directly
without the use of a storage tank. Therefore,
they avoid the heat losses associated with
storage water heaters. When a hot water tap is
turned on, cold water travels through a pipe
into the unit. In an electric Tankless Water
Heater, an electric element heats the water. In
a gas-fired Tankless Water Heater, a gas burner
heats the water. As a result, Tankless Water
Heaters deliver a constant supply of hot water.
You don’t need to wait for a storage tank to
fill up with enough hot water.
Typically, Tankless Water Heaters provide hot
water at a rate of 2-5 gallons per minute.
Typically, gas-fired Tankless Water Heaters will
produce higher flow rates than electric Tankless
Water Heaters.
Many Tankless Water Heaters have a life
expectancy of more than 20 years. They also have
easily replaceable parts that extend their life
by many more years. In contrast, storage water
heaters last 10-15 years.
