Our inspiration comes from a variety of sources--from the natural beauty of wood to the creativity of building a unique structure.
We live in an area that is rich in contrasts and has a unique history and heritage. Our company finds inspiration in both old and new homes that are built in this beautiful mountain area. There is a great tradition of building Natural Element homes in the Historic communities around Linville, Blowing Rock and Grandfather Mountain.
Mountain Construction Enterprises, with the focus of our management and staff, seeks to make a connection between art, nature and building design. We want to ensure that the unique designs that we have had an opportunity to build complement the character of the communities where we build.
The timber posts, timber rafters and other large wood members we use in the homes we build can inspire a connection for man to natural elements that spring from the earth. We build with trees that can be seen in the home.

Other Building Influences - Craftsman Style
Movement |
The Arts and Crafts Movement began partly as a revolt against the social consequences of the industrial revolution and also against the proliferation of Victorian age mass-produced furniture whose design and execution was controlled by machinists and industrialists, rather than artists and craftsmen. This construction style encourages simple designs and the use of natural materials.
We have built several homes that
embrace the philosophy of this
movement, using lots of exposed
wood, poplar bark siding and natural
stone to create a home that can
provide a peaceful escape from a
hectic lifestyle.

Excerpt taken from Rustic Style by Ralph Kylloe
The first makers of Adirondack homes and furniture used the materials they had at hand: birch, cedar, maple, and other trees, whose bark, roots, trunks and limbs have provided the raw materials for building.
Much of the charm of Adirondack style lies in its architecture; many of the camps reflect Swiss and Scandinavian buildings, in addition to the more sophisticated influence of the Arts and Crafts movement. However, the main influence is nature itself, with the trees natural twists and gnarls being the organic components.

Greene & Greene Architecture |
Founded by brothers, Greene & Greene architectural firm defined American arts and crafts style. They created houses of exceptional craftsmanship and refinement. All the houses were notable for their articulated surfaces and oriental sensitivities.
Informal and regionally relevant, these homes exhibit the handmade detailing and respect for materials characteristic of the arts and crafts works. The brothers typically used wood members, overhanging roofs and eaves, sleeping porches, and spacious interiors.
